The Need of Working Together
The Mediterranean Social Economy Forum will provide the audience with an overview of the Social Economy in the Mediterranean and will present the opportunities that the organizations of this sector represent in terms of entrepreneurship, job creation, social cohesion, economic growth and sustainable development for the Mediterranean region.
In the Mediterranean region the Social Economy (SE) represents more than 994.000 organizations -among cooperatives, benefit societies, development associations, foundations and others-, 150 million actors and 8 millions of jobs. However, there is a substantial difference in terms of jobs creation within this sector between northern and southern Mediterranean countries. For instance, figures show that in countries such as France, Italy or Spain the Social Economy organizations employ more than 6 million people while in Morocco, Algeria, Egypt barely reach 1 million people. This means there is still a huge potential for economic growth and employment.
