The Mediterranean Games 2018 will be presented during the 11th edition of the Mediterranean Week of Economic Leaders (MedaWeek), in November in Barcelona.
Tarragona, July 19, 2017 – This week the Chamber of Commerce of Tarragona and the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME) carried out an institutional visit to the City Council of Tarragona to finalize their collaboration on the XVIII Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2018. The President of the Chamber of Commerce of Tarragona, Andreu Suriol, and the General Coordinator of ASCAME, Anwar Zibaoui, were received at the Municipal Palace by the Commissioner of the Mediterranean Games of Tarragona, Javier Villamayor, who subsequently, organized a guided tour of the facilities of the Mediterranean Ring.
The City Council of Tarragona and the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry will work together on various initiatives and joint projects that will promote the values of sport and solidarity with a clear focus on sports economy.
This collaboration will take the form of an official presentation of the XVIII Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2018 during the Mediterranean Week of Economic Leaders, organized by ASCAME at the Casa Llotja de Mar in Barcelona on 22, 23 and 24 November. During this special session, attending companies will be informed on the opportunities surrounding key values of in the sports realm – such as the teamwork – or Mediterranean values on which the city of Tarragona has always bet.
In the coming months, an agreement will be signed specifying the scope of this cooperation. The holding of a joint forum on sports economy within the framework of the Mediterranean Games is already confirmed, allowing the private sector to take an active part in the initiatives planned within the framework of the Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2018.
ASCAME is an international non-profit organization that represents the private sector in the Mediterranean by bringing together 300 Chambers of Commerce from both shores of the Mediterranean. This association is considered one of the most important players in the regional private sector.
The Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2018 which will take place from 22 June to 1 July 2018, will enjoy participation from; more than 4,000 athletes from 26 different nationalities, 1,000 judges, numerous representatives from federations and national committees, 1,000 international journalists, 6,000 volunteers and more than 150,000 spectators. Consequently, companies in the region will have the unique opportunity to be able to project themselves at the regional and international level and to seek out business opportunities in sport as an emerging economic sector in the Mediterranean.
